About Trenton Trenton Ontario is located at the western end of the Bay of Quinte, at the mouth of the Trent River, and is the gateway to the historic Trent-Severn Waterway. Originally called Port Trent in 1790, by 1800 lumber was the major industry in Trenton, and the first saw mill was built. In 1853, Trenton was incorporated as a village and shortly thereafter, in 1856, a rail stop was opened which rapidly made Trenton the major rail, power and manufacturing center in the region. In 1880, Trenton became the Town of Trenton, but not until 1980 did Trenton's expanding population make it the City of Trenton. Today, Trenton Ontario is part of the newly formed City of Quinte West . . . comprised of Trenton, Frankford, Sidney and Murray Townships.
Touted as the "Playground of Southern Ontario" Trenton represents the get-a-way of all vacation destinations. Water water everywhere and lots of things to do. Trenton is interesting, exciting, fun and relaxing . . . a great place to visit and live.
Canadian Forces Base Trenton/8 WING, located on the east side of the town, is an important facility for Canadian Forces Air Command's transport and search and rescue operations, and is Trenton's main employer. The base is currently being renovated to include a new air traffic control tower and parking for the new CC-177 Globemaster III aircraft deployed there.
